Could Biofuel be the Future Fuel for Cooking?

In some parts of Africa, women have to trek long distances to fetch firewood used in cooking. Some other women may use charcoal or kerosene stoves. All these sources of fuel are characterized with the production of smoke and soot which are harmful to the health.

The Carbon Credit Network has been able to create an opportunity for the adoption of renewable energy in Africa. One of the products from this network is the ‘Kike Green Cook Stove’. This green stove serves as an alternative to the use of firewood, kerosene and charcoal.
The stove uses a biofuel gel as its source of energy. The biofuel gel is made from sawdust, waste paper and grass. It burns cleanly with no soot, safe and easy to use. This stove contributes to the reduction of greenhouse gases which eventually reduces global warming.

The Kike Green Cook Stove has now been successfully used in several parts of Africa. It is endorsed by the UNDP and Bank of Industry. The Stove was presented at the 2012 UN climate change conference in Doha. Watch the video below.
